I Think We’re All Guilty
We’ve all done it, and if you haven’t you probably should. Whether by accident or on purpose. While busy or entirely bored sitting on the couch or bed. We’ve all relived memories through photos, and in today’s culture most likely through Facebook, or some photos saved on our computers.
I think this is a beautiful thing, and at the same time very curious. I find that most moments don’t become amazing memories until relived months later. You get that churning in your stomach that secretly longs to relive the moment. Your face is beaming in a photo, or making a silly face with friends, whatever it may be you are faced with only the happiness of that moment.
Sometimes, however, there is the extreme of reliving memories where we suddenly refuse to let go. We compare our moments now and they seem far from what they were. Just a thought, but even in those pictures you miss, I bet there’s a ton going on in your mind. From relationships, to a simple test, to pain you may have just recovered from. In the same way you over think now, you were over thinking then. Maybe you had just spent hours reliving memories!
Step back and make moments here and now. Don’t rob yourself, because we seem to be machines in a vicious cycle chasing happiness. Though I believe happiness is shallow, and what we truly seek is Joy in the Lord (whether we know it or not), the irony is that you may look at today in photos two months from now and miss the person you were.
